The Only Children's ER in the Region

Built just for kids

Children are not little adults. They have unique medical needs. We created the first Children's ER in the region to provide the specialized emergency care they need. The 12-bed facility is at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Allentown, Pa. It is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., the hours children typically come to the ER. Whether a child is seen in the Children's ER or in our regular ER during off-peak hours, we're prepared to provide the best possible care.

The Children's ER features specialists who are passionate about caring for your children and have the skills to address their needs, including:

  • Board-certified pediatric emergency physicians to care for children with serious illnesses and injuries
  • Certified pediatric emergency nurses
  • Pediatric respiratory specialists
  • Pharmacists with special education in caring for children
  • Child-life specialists to help children cope with the fear associated with a hospital visit
  • Access to pediatric physicians in 28 clinical specialties

A visit to the hospital is stressful for all people, especially children. That's why the Children's ER has these tools to help children feel calm:

  • A dedicated waiting room to eliminate the anxiety children may feel seeing sick or injured adults
  • Pain management methods like creams that numb the site of a needle stick and the availability of "laughing gas" (nitrous oxide)
  • Distraction techniques that use bubbles, music, movies or sugar-coated pacifiers to manage anxiety
  • A fun décor, including interactive video displays on the walls and floor that help keep children distracted

The Children's ER will create even shorter wait times in our current ER. Because children are receiving care in their own department, we’ll be able to care for more adults.

We need your help.

Your financial support helps provide the children of our community with the quality emergency care they deserve. You'll feel good about supporting a vital community need. Plus, the children who receive care in the Children's ER will be forever grateful to you.
