About
Philosophy of care
I believe that my role is to help people make the best decision regarding their care and then to administer that care with understanding and compassion. Each person's experience with their disease is uniquely different and they deserve respect, not to be lumped into a set of norms.
Also I am a member of the head and neck cancer multidisciplinary consultation team. Together we review your diagnostic information and give you a written opinion reflecting the scope of your condition and recommendations for your best course of care.
Why I entered medicine
My primary reason for entering hematology and oncology was because of a close family member going through several years of dealing with colon cancer. I watched as she and her children dealt with the roller coaster of emotions, successes and setbacks, feeling good days and disappointing days. I learned how important it is to be empathetic, to be a good listener and how to be a compassionate caregiver. As a hematologist/oncologist, I get to use many of my general medicine skills to navigate the complex process of treating patients with cancer. In most situations, I assume the care for my patients above and beyond their disease.
Personal interests
I recently have become interested in running. I have participated in the Philadelphia Broad Street 10-Miler Run for the last two years. My next goal is running a half-marathon. I enjoy the accomplishment of crossing the finish line after the months of training and discipline. Additionally, running is a great way to balance a busy career and personal well-being.
