Camp Red Jacket

Help children with diabetes find answers

Learning is fun—Watch the video and step inside Camp Red Jacket.

At Camp Red Jacket, children with type I diabetes find answers to their questions about managing their condition. And it’s done in a fun, game-based environment that lets kids be kids. The camp, held at Camp Fowler in Orefield, offers swimming, arts and crafts and field trips, along with frequent blood-sugar testing and healthy snacks. Certified diabetes educators, registered nurses, registered dietitians, certified insulin pump trainers and certified registered nurse practitioners staff the camp and help children learn more about diabetes. This free camp for children ages 6-12 is supported by Frank Loretti, a longtime supporter and friend of Lehigh Valley Health Network. He was sailing on a New York lake when a storm arose, forcing him to seek shelter. He found refuge at a pier belonging to the Red Jacket Yacht Club, named after the great Indian Chief Red Jacket, and he found it fitting that the camp bear this legend’s name.
