DUI Task Force Stresses a Safe and Sober Thanksgiving

Members of the Lehigh Valley DUI/Highway Safety Task Force made a pre-Thanksgiving visit to Moravian College in Bethlehem.  Law enforcement marked the statewide Operation Safe Holiday campaign by urging students heading home to wear their seat belts and to avoid aggressive and impaired driving.

Dozens of students also took an alcohol IQ test to determine their knowledge of DUI arrests, fines, costs and crashes.

The day before Thanksgiving is the number one travel day of the year. Lehigh Valley Health Network is a community partner with the Task Force, which hopes its message helps to improve upon last year’s statistics. There were 1,286 traffic-related deaths reported in 2011 in Pennsylvania, down from 1,324 in 2010.
