Cardiac Catheterization
This procedure is one of the most useful tools to evaluate the condition of your heart’s arteries, valves and muscles. A thin, flexible tube (catheter) is inserted into an artery through a small incision in the groin or wrist. A dye, which is visible by special X-rays (angiogram), is injected. This angiography allows your physicians to see if you have any blocked or narrowed blood vessels and how effectively your heart is pumping.
Cardiac catheterizations are performed by invasive cardiologists who are specialists in performing these procedures. We perform about 9,500 catheterization procedures at Lehigh Valley Health Network every year. Our all-digital cardiac catheterization labs ensure your doctor views the clearest images of your heart.
