Our program is the third busiest in Pennsylvania, performing more than 1,000 surgeries each year. Our board-certified heart surgeons collectively have performed surgery for nearly 90 years, completing more than 20,000 cardiothoracic procedures. The fact that we care for such a large number of patients means our doctors have the experience needed to achieve the best results.

Our valve surgery program leads the state in quality, with the only "lower than expected" mortality rating in four valve-related categories, according to the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council's Cardiac Surgery Report for 2007-2008.

Since 2002, we have experienced an approximately 1 percent or lower mortality rate for heart bypass surgery. The most recent state average is 1.9 percent. Plus, our mortality rate for isolated mitral valve repair is 0 percent, putting us among the country's leading organizations.
