Experience Our Passion for Better Medicine
In health care, our work is guided by science and technology. At the heart of it all are the people—nurses who balance expert care and compassion, researchers who investigate the newest lifesaving treatments, medical residents whose fresh perspective helps solve age-old dilemmas.
We are fortunate to work with some of the most inspiring people in health care. The collective passion of our 9,500 colleagues powers our refined identity. We are Lehigh Valley Health Network, encompassing hospitals, health centers, physicians, pharmacy, home health, imaging and other vital health care services. A Passion for Better Medicine tells the story of how we’re driven to go the extra mile for our community.
While health care today faces challenges—a slumping national economy and decreased government reimbursements among them—the energy and commitment of our colleagues will help us address them head on so we can continue delivering the highest-quality care.
Inside this report, you’ll see our passion come alive and learn how, through teamwork and dedication, we’ll make our health network even stronger in the future.

Passion made visible
When computer science teacher Ken Thompson (right) learned his heart valve wasn’t allowing blood to flow properly from his heart, he searched the Internet to find the right surgeon. He chose Raymond Singer, M.D., of Lehigh Valley Health Network. “He told me I had a 90 percent chance of having it repaired, and I wouldn’t need a new valve,” says the 62-year-old Whitehouse Station, N.J., man. The surgery was successful, and Thompson is back in class.
