Burn Care

Lehigh Valley Health Network’s Regional Burn Center is one of the nation’s most advanced burn centers, and is one of 44 burn centers nationally verified by the American Burn Association and the American college of surgeons. Located in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest’s Kasych Family Pavilion, the 18-bed facility provides burn care to more than 600 adults and children every year—three times the number of patients as the average burn center. The Regional Burn Center’s full-time medical staff is pioneering advanced burn care technologies and reconstructive surgical techniques. A Burn Recovery Center provides outpatient care for burn patients after hospitalization, and to those with less severe burns. As part of an emergency preparedness initiative, burn carts are located at 24 area hospitals and three mobile surge facilities to ensure burn patients receive quality burn care should the Burn Center reach capacity. Trauma Care

Lehigh Valley Health Network is Pennsylvania’s first and region’s largest Level I Trauma Center, and the only one in the region with Level II pediatric accreditation. We care for 4,500 trauma patients every year. Approximately 25 percent of these patients are age 65 and older and receive care through a first-of-its-kind geriatric trauma program. We have the area’s only pediatric intensive care unit, providing the highest level of care for severely injured children, and the area’s only pediatric surgeons. We also have the area’s only child life program to help children and families feel comfortable during their hospitalization. MedEvac

Serving the region since 1981, Lehigh Valley Health Network MedEvac is a helicopter air medical transport service providing emergency and critical care for seriously ill or injured patients of all ages. Air transportation is provided from a referring hospital or accident scene to Lehigh Valley Health Network, the region’s busiest, most-experienced trauma center treating adults and children. MedEvac operates four aircraft from bases in Berks, Carbon, Monroe and Schuylkill counties. The MedEvac team includes flight nurses and paramedics, pilots, mechanics and communication technicians. Heart Care

Lehigh Valley Health Network’s heart program is the third largest in Pennsylvania. Specialists at our Regional Heart Center, located at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest and Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, perform thousands of surgeries, cardiac catheterizations, angioplasties, and procedures for electrical problems of the heart every year. We have the highest heart attack survival rate in the United States according to the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). U.S. News & World Report consistently recognizes us as one of “America’s Best Hospitals” for heart care and heart surgery. Our Center for Advanced Heart Failure is the only facility in the region under the medical direction of a heart failure specialist. Lehigh Valley Health Network offers world-class care for a wide variety of neurological diseases and neurosurgical conditions. Our team includes neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, anesthesiologists and others who deliver expert care for stroke, brain tumors, spine disease and numerous other conditions. They are skilled in using the latest technology and small-incision techniques, and in caring for the most complex neurological conditions. Children’s Care

Lehigh Valley Health Network provides the region’s most comprehensive care for children—from birth through teenage years. We stand out as having the area’s only pediatric surgeons who treat many conditions with minimally invasive surgery and the area’s only pediatric intensive care unit to care for seriously injured children. We have the region’s highest level trauma care for children and highest level neonatal care for premature babies with serious illnesses. To help children and families cope while in the hospital, we have the area’s only child life program. Among our specialists are pediatric cancer physicians, pediatric radiologists, adolescent medicine specialists and pediatric anesthesiologists. Lehigh Valley Health Network is the only health care provider in the Lehigh Valley accepted for associate membership in the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACRI) and to become a certified member of the Children’s Oncology Groups (COG). Cancer Care

Lehigh Valley Health Network’s cancer centers at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Allentown, Pa., and Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg in Bethlehem, Pa., are home to fellowship-trained doctors who are leaders in their fields. They offer access to the latest advances in diagnosis and treatment technology and they are actively involved in research to find new treatments that extend life. Orthopedic Services

Lehigh Valley Health Network’s orthopedic program is rated as one of the top three in Pennsylvania. We specialize in diagnosing, treating and preventing problems of the bones, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments using the latest diagnostic technology. Experienced orthopedic surgeons, recognized as some of the finest in the nation, perform more than 1,000 total joint replacements every year—the most of any health care provider in the region. We have pioneered development of the nation’s first fully moveable bearing artificial knee and cementless knee and hip joints, and we are an international teaching center for joint reconstruction—one of the first designated by the International Association of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine. Maternal-Fetal Medicine

Lehigh Valley Health Network is a national leader in caring for women whose conditions make their pregnancies high-risk. Our maternal-fetal medicine specialists are available throughout a woman’s pregnancy—24 hours a day, 7 days a week—using the latest technology and procedures. Lehigh Valley Health Network is among few hospitals in the country offering this service and is a national model for other health care providers. Maternal-fetal medicine specialists provide obesity in pregnancy care, fetal cardiovascular services, pregnancy loss evaluation, perinatal diagnosis and therapy, diabetes in pregnancy, preterm birth and prevention, critical care obstetrics and genetic counseling services. To meet the need for maternal-fetal medicine care in rural areas, the hospital partners with a center for specialized medicine 70 miles away where perinatologists are in the office several days a week and use the hospitals' high-speed telemedicine network to oversee additional fetal ultrasound imaging.
