RapidArc radiotherapy
RapidArc radiotherapy is an extremely fast and precise form of radiation therapy. It allows clinicians to quickly and accurately deliver radiation to cancer cells while keeping the dose to surrounding tissues as low as possible. Faster treatments are not only more comfortable for you, but they often are more accurate. The treatments are delivered with a medical linear accelerator. This large machine generates high-powered X-rays and rotates around you as you lie on a treatment couch. It can deliver the beams from any angle. This technology can also be used to deliver image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). When delivering this type of radiation therapy, physicians use imaging to guide the radiation rays closely to the three-dimensional shape of the tumor, focusing the rays precisely on the tumor.
