Dr. Lewis is Physician in Chief of Lehigh Valley Fleming Neuroscience Institute, where he also is Chief of Neurology and holds the Timothy M. Breidegam Endowed Chair in Neurology. Prior to joining Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) in 2017, he was Professor of Neurology, Associate Chair, Neurology Residency Director and Head of the Section of General Neurology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Ill.

Dr. Lewis is a graduate of Yale College of Yale University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. He received his medical school education at Stanford University School of Medicine and performed his medical internship and neurology residency at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics, where he served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Lewis currently serves as Director of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), the organization tasked with board certification of neurologists in the United States. He is a past Chair of the Neurology Residency Review Committee (RRC) of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), where he oversaw the accreditation decisions for the neurology residencies and fellowships throughout the country. He also served as Chair of the Neurology Milestones Working Group, and currently serves on the ACGME Appeals Panel for Neurology.

Dr. Lewis is the Secretary-General of the World Federation of Neurology (WFN), only the third American to be elected to this position since the WFN’s founding in 1956. He is Chair of the WFN Education Committee and the Editor of World Neurology, the WFN’s official news publication. He also is the Congress Committee Chair for the biennial World Congress of Neurology.

Dr. Lewis is immediate past Editor in Chief of Continuum: Lifelong Learning in Neurology, the official Continuing Medical Education (CME) journal of the American Academy of Neurology. He is currently the Associate Editor for Global Neurology for the Journal of the Neurological Sciences. Dr. Lewis has been the author, editor or co-editor of four textbooks of neurology, with another neurology textbook currently in development.

In 2019, Dr. Lewis was the recipient of the A.B. Baker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Neurologic Education from the AAN.
