The program spans eight weeks and is coordinated by the Department of Education. Research or quality improvement projects, submitted by LVHN departments, allow students to make the link between their academic preparation and the world of work. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions for additional information.

The program is scheduled to run from June 3 – July 26.

The 2024 Research Scholar Program will offer in-person and remote projects. All Scholars, regardless of project delivery method, will attend orientation on June 3 and June 4 and the poster presentation on July 26 in person.

Scholars are expected to work 30 hours a week with the specific weekly schedule set with the mentor. Additionally, all scholars attend weekly professional development sessions. The PD sessions are included in the 30 hours. Scholars are expected to attend the entire 8-week program.

Scholars must be available for orientation on:

  • Orientation on June 3-4
  • Thursday mornings from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • The closing ceremony and poster presentation on July 26.

The program is intended for students who have not previously participated.

Eligible applicants are students currently enrolled in a post-secondary education program. Scholars must be rising sophomores, juniors or seniors in college who have completed their first year of college but not yet started their senior year.

High school students, graduate students, medical school students, and those enrolled in other postgraduate programs are not eligible for the program.

There is no minimum GPA requirement. Applicants do not need to be pursuing a specific field of study.

Research Scholars are not employees of Lehigh Valley Health Network. However, upon successful completion of the program, Scholars receive a stipend.

Research Scholars will create a poster presenting and summarizing their research which will be published in Scholarly Works. The Scholars will also present their posters at the conclusion of the program. Please visit Scholarly Works to investigate prior year projects.

Applicants complete the application online through the application portal. (The 2024 application portal has closed). The application includes a skill set assessment, personal statement, unofficial transcripts, and a letter of recommendation.

Applicants review the available projects and indicate three projects for which to be considered.

Applications are evaluated through a blind, multi-stage review. Applicants will be notified of the decision in April via email.
