Medical and Physician Assistant Students

The physicians and staff of Lehigh Valley Health Network have a long-standing commitment to excellence in medical education. SELECT medical education program, created by the University of South Florida College of Medicine and Lehigh Valley Health Network, is preparing students to take a leadership role in the accelerating pace of change in health care.

SELECT stands for Scholarly Excellence, Leadership Experiences and Collaborative Training. Students in the program will spend their first two years learning in a highly progressive, student-centered medical school, the USF College of Medicine in Tampa, Fla. They will then spend their final two years learning inside our technologically advanced health network, which is recognized nationally for quality, safety and collaborative care. The program strives to create an atmosphere where learning will flourish.

Lehigh Valley Health Network also offers programs for medical students from affiliated medical schools and LMCE- and AOA-accredited medical schools.

Fourth-year medical students

LVHN offers elective rotations to fourth-year medical students from LCME- and AOA-accredited medical schools in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada. Students must apply through the Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS).  Students will receive a VSAS email notification with the department’s decision to approve or not approve a request.

Physician assistant students

LVHN currently offers elective rotations to physician assistant students from DeSales University. LVHN will only process one elective rotation request per student per academic year.

Shadowing requests

LVHN does not approve shadowing or observation requests for medical students, physician assistant students or individuals applying to physician assistant programs.

Medical students interested in an educational experience at LVHN are encouraged to apply for an elective rotation via VSAS.

Physician assistant students interested in an educational experience at LVHN are encouraged to apply for an elective rotation via the "Eligibility For Physician Assistant Elective Rotation" form above.
