About Dr. Fitzsimmons

Philosophy of care

I believe that every patient has a story. Every patient has someone who cares about them. And every patient deserves the best possible care that they can get from their family doctor. I am not in medicine to simply review a patient's labs and medications. I am there to look at each person as an individual, to put together the entire puzzle, and to work together as a team to come up with a plan on how to best manage their illness. I am not just the teacher, but an active participant in a team made up of doctor and patient. I learn from my patients as well, and hope to both contribute to and take something valuable from every patient encounter.

Why I entered medicine

When I was 15, my grandmother was very ill. And when I saw the kind of compassionate care she received, I thought, "That's what I want to do with my life." Before that, I thought I'd have a career in fine art. And I still can't resist drawing pictures for my patients - I think it's easier to understand how their bodies work if they can see a picture. I chose osteopathic medicine because I really liked the holistic approach, the philosophy of getting to know the patient and the entire family. Family is very important to me personally, so it just made sense to me that this would be a great way to practice medicine.

Community involvement

I am actively involved in educating the community on various health topics. I hold lectures in a casual setting in our office - known as "Riverside Chats" to give patients the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about their disease processes. I also enjoy going into my children's schools and their activities to have fun discussions about the human body through a young person's perspective

Personal interests

I don't have what most people would call "spare" time. We have three young children who are actively involved in activities, and we live in an old schoolhouse that's in a permanent state of remodeling! But my patients should know that I practice what I preach about exercise. We spend a lot of time enjoying outdoor fun like hiking and biking as a family, and I try to participate in a triathlon each June. We spend a lot of time with extended family members also, as my husband is one of 10 children!

Ratings and Reviews

About Our Ratings and Reviews

About our Survey

Our physicians and advanced practice clinicians (CRNPs and PA-Cs) are among the nation's best. That's why we show you patient satisfaction ratings and comments so you can read about and get to know our providers through the eyes of their patients.

To ensure our ratings and comments come only from verified patients, we work with NRC Health, a third-party organization. NRC Health sends patient satisfaction surveys on LVPG's behalf following an office visit or procedure. They ask patients about their impression of the health care provider and the doctor's or advanced practice clinician's communication skills.

What is included in the star rating?

Star ratings are based on a scale of 1-5 stars, 5 being the best. The rating includes responses to these provider-related questions:

  1. Physician Communication Questions
    1. Did this provider give you enough information about your health and treatment?
    2. Did this provider give you easy to understand information about your health questions and concerns?
    3. Did this provider listen carefully to you?
    4. Did this provider seem to know your medical history?
    5. Did you trust this provider with your care?
  2. Overall Provider Rating Question
    1. Using any number from 0 to 10, where 0 is the worst provider possible and 10 is the best provider possible, what number would you use to rate this provider?

Why don't all doctors or advanced practice clinicians have a rating?

In order to have enough data to measure and compare, a health care provider must have at least 30 completed patient satisfaction surveys. Surveys are included for a period of 12 months from submission.
