About

Philosophy of care

I believe in a very personalized approach to patient care. You are an individual, with different needs and concerns. I will work hard to you feel heard and as comfortable as possible. Urologic issues can be intensely personal, making patients feel exposed and uncertain. Connecting with me will help put you at ease and allow for a healthy working relationship.

Why I entered medicine

I came to medicine through a round-about approach. I initially thought I might go into music. Entering college, I realized that was not a practical career for me. I then considered organic chemistry research. I enjoyed this immensely but decided I would prefer to work more closely with people. I settled on medical research but have drifted more to clinical practice. I found working directly with patients, in the office, hospital and through surgery, to be extremely rewarding and fulfilling.

Community involvement

My most time-consuming community effort is raising two fine young men; my wife April and I have been very involved in the lives of our two sons. I have been involved in my church: singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, running the teen youth group and working in our church's refugee center. I have also done medical mission work in Palestine and Bangladesh, primarily treating children with congenital urologic issues.

Personal interests

I still have a great love of music and sing in my church choir. I also enjoy carpentry, most often working with my younger son, Charles. I take long walks with my dog, Abby, and bike ride when I have the time. At the end of the day, I enjoy reading books of all sorts.
