Admissions Process

Joseph F. McCloskey School of Nursing at Lehigh Valley Health Network makes sincere efforts to accommodate applicants/students with disabilities. Nursing Student Physical/Mental Requirements:

  1. Be able to speak and understand the English language and communicate in an understandable manner.
  2. Be able to read and write the English language in an understandable manner.
  3. Be able to move, walk, sit and stand intermittently and for extended periods in the clinical setting.
  4. Be able to bend, stretch and lift up to 50 pounds.
  5. Be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately in order to assure that the program requirements can be met.
  6. Be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  7. Be able to cope with mental and emotional stress.
  8. Have or learn the manual dexterity required to carry out the functions necessary to meet the objectives of the program.

Application Procedures:

  1. Fill out and submit the application 
  2. Complete the required essay and attach it to the application form. (Instructions for essay are located on the third page of the application form).
  3. Attach a $50 check or money order (application fee) to the application. (Make the check payable to "Joseph F. McCloskey School of Nursing".) Application fee will be waived if you are an employee of Lehigh Valley Health Network in Schuylkill County or an immediate family member of an employee (mother, father, son, daughter, spouse), or if you are entitled to a hardship waiver according to the SAT Program Fee Waiver Service. If you are claiming an employee fee waiver or a hardship waiver, please check the appropriate box on the application.
  4. Have your high school send an official high school transcript to us. If you took a Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or an American College Test (ACT Test) while in high school, please request that your scores also be included on your transcripts. (A high school transcript is an essential part of your application file even if you didn't graduate and later received a General Educational Development (GED) diploma). Applicants who attended their secondary education in a country other than the U.S. must submit transcripts that have been translated by a credential evaluation service such as WES (World Education Service). If needed, contact www.wes.org.
  5. If you received a GED, please send us a copy of your certificate along with your GED scores.
  6. An official transcript must be submitted from each post-secondary school that you have attended (colleges, universities, nursing schools, trade schools, etc.)
  7. Non-U.S. Citizens must show original permanent resident card I-551 for photocopying. Applicants with a current I-551 card must be verified through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) system.
  8. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for applicants whose first language is not English. For information on taking the TOEFL, contact www.toefl.org.
  9. A PA and/or FBI Criminal Record Check is required of applicants who check "Yes" on the crime conviction question on the application.

Applications are reviewed monthly. Your application will not be reviewed until all of the application materials (including transcripts) are received. If you do not receive notification within a month, please call our Admissions Office to check on the status of your application (570-621-5027).
