What makes your Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) training program different from others across the country?

The LVHN training program is a unique blend of community and academic health care. Our program structure balances bedside teaching with scheduled lectures and research opportunities. The network is close-knit and ever expanding, creating more opportunities for our patients to have access to comprehensive care without having to travel to outside networks. 

What has been the most extraordinary part of your training experience so far?

The most extraordinary part of my training thus far is the amount of time spent in high-acuity care rotations. From cardiac ICU to medical ICU, we manage many critically ill patients with varying pathologies. This exposure creates a strong foundation as we progress through our medical careers, enabling us to work in any environment.  

What is one memory you have from your training so far that will stick with you for your career?

Traditionally, each clinic group has a “family dinner.” My favorite memory thus far was our first clinic dinner. The seniors shared numerous stories relating to co-residents past and present, learning experiences and many laughs. This dinner sparked friendships that will far outlast our resident years and emphasized that although the road through residency will have many ups and downs, I have the full support of my colleagues. 

What is one piece of advice you would share with someone as they select a training program?

My advice is to pick a program that you fit into personally and professionally. Throughout residency, you will spend more time with your co-residents than your family, so it is important to find a group of people who will support you throughout the process.

What does it mean to be a resident at LVHN?

Being an LVHN resident is something to be proud of. I can truly say that our resident services provide exceptional care, aiming to educate both our patients and ourselves. I genuinely enjoy being a resident in this program.
