Get to Know: Brooke Laudenslager, DO

Career goal: pediatric cardiologist

“Many programs will say “the people” are their program’s best trait, but it’s most important to find a program that has your people.”

What makes your LVHN training program different from others across the country?

I love that wellness is a top priority at LVHN. We have scheduled Wellness Wednesdays every quarter, many golden weekends and have leadership that is very understanding of personal life events. I wanted to find a program that provided top-tier education while also understanding we all need time to recharge to make the most of our education.

What has been the most extraordinary part of your training experience so far?

Having no fellows at our program allowed me to have the opportunity to do my first lumbar puncture within my first two weeks as resident. I love having the opportunity to be first in line for procedures and having supportive co-residents who celebrate my accomplishments with me.

What is one memory you have from your training so far that will stick with you for your career?

The endless support I got during my first month of inpatient. Everyone on the team, including my senior resident, attendings, pharmacists, nursing staff, was so kind and welcoming. I never once felt alone, and I am so thankful for all the support I received.

What is one piece of advice you would share with someone as they select a training program?

Many programs will say “the people” are their program’s best trait, but it’s most important to find a program that has your people.

What does it mean to be a resident at LVHN?

It means that you’re an essential part of our close-knit resident family, who will always be supported by residents, attendings and other staff within Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital.
