Wound care is a treatment service specializing in the care of all types of non-healing and difficult-to-heal wounds, sores and ulcers. Some of the common types of ulcers treated at the Wound Center are pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers and leg ulcers due to circulatory problems. We also offer care and treatment for patients having ostomy-related skin and appliance problems. Lehigh Valley Health Network’s wound care program offers both inpatient and outpatient wound and ostomy care services at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest and Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg.
The Wound Healing Center at Muhlenberg is home to two state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen treatment chambers. We provide hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) for patients with selected problems. Some conditions that benefit from HBO include, but are not limited to, radiation injury, chronic bone infection and diabetic foot ulcers.
A physician referral is required for hyperbaric oxygen therapy. A physician referral is not always needed for wound care.
