Everyone talks about robotic surgery. At LVHN, our robotic surgery program, led by gynecologic oncologist Martin Martino, MD, features one of the nation's largest teams skilled in using high-def 3-D imaging and precise control. We've performed more than 10,000 robotic procedures since 2007.
Our skilled surgeons offer patients expanded access to robotic surgery, making it available at all campuses in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The network has eight da Vinci Si and Xi HD Surgical Systems across six hospitals:
- Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Cedar Crest
- LVH–17th Street
The robot gives our surgeons the ability to perform complex and delicate surgery. The scarring can be minimal, and many patients have less pain after surgery and return back to work within weeks. All of these benefits may lead to a faster recovery with an improved overall patient experience.
Robotic surgery usually involves three to five small incisions. For some conditions, Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) now offers da Vinci® Single Site® Surgery, where the surgeon operates through a single small incision of less than 1-inch long. In July 2017, LVHN became the first in the region to use the Intuitive Surgical Inc., da Vinci® Xi™ Surgical System, a technological leap forward in replacing large-incision abdominal surgeries (open surgery) with a minimally invasive approach.
