Thomas McLoughlin, MD

Dr. McLoughlin has been Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology since 2001. He also holds an appointment as professor of surgery, division of surgical anesthesiology at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine.

Dr. McLoughlin joined the clinical staff of Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) in 1996, serving as chief of the division of cardiac anesthesiology and vice chair of the department of anesthesiology prior to his appointment as chair. He is a director of the American Board of Anesthesiology and has been a board examiner since 2001. He is a member of the Review Committee for Anesthesiology of the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education, and a director of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), where he also served as treasurer.

In 1984, Dr. McLoughlin graduated with honors from Johns Hopkins University. He received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine and completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Virginia.

Following his medical training, Dr. McLoughlin entered active-duty military service with the U.S. Army, joining the academic faculty of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and the clinical faculty of Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He served as the chief of cardiothoracic anesthesiology and program director of Anesthesiology Residency Education at Walter Reed.
