Full Name

Trauma: The effect of music therapy and standard therapy versus standard therapy on sedation requirements in mechanically ventilated ICU patients: a pilot study (2_PRO00000193)

Description

Selected trauma patients admitted to the ICU that require mechanical ventilation are to be enrolled in the study. Subjects will be exposed to music, specifically chosen for them, during two 1-hour sessions during the first day in the study, as well as on successive odd days. During the second day and successive even days, they will receive two 1-hour sessions of rest period. During all therapy sessions, the patients will be undisturbed as much as possible with diagnostic procedures kept to a minimum. Each study participant will be matched to a patient from the trauma registry to provide controls for evaluating the sedation requirements between the study patients and an MT nave historical sample. Drugs used for relaxation and reducing anxiety(sedation medications) will be evaluated on a daily basislooking for any significant changes in medication requirements.
