Description
Participants will be randomized to 1 of 2 arms. Arm 1, or the "Young Women Intervention " (YWI) arm, focuses on: fertility issues, attractiveness, parenting young children, completing education, career development and psychosocial issues. Arm 2 or the "Physical Activity Intervention" (PAI), the control arm, focuses on physical activity to alleviate weight gain often attributed to chemotherapy, especially premenopausal women who go through menopause with treatment. Concerns regarding fertility, care of young children, genetic counseling, menopausal symptoms associated with chemotherapy and feelings of isolation will be measured through quality of life questionnaires at baseline, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months as well as their medical records.
Eligibility
Inclusion Criteria
- Women age 18-45 years at diagnosis
- Stage I-III invasive breast cancer without a known recurrence or metastatic disease
- Newly-diagnosed (within 3 months of initial diagnosis).
- First appointment with a medical oncologist occurs after the participating site opens to enrollment
- Able to read and write in English
