Nutrition Services

What you eat and drink plays a vital role in keeping you healthy and strong, preventing disease and helping you recover when you're sick. Our registered dietitians at Lehigh Valley Health Network will provide information and practical tools to help you reach your nutrition goals and get maximum benefit from the foods you eat.

Our clinical nutrition specialists are driven to develop and provide personalized and innovative nutrition services to improve your quality of life. We provide all aspects of medical nutrition therapy throughout your care, using technology, interdisciplinary collaboration, research and evidenced-based practice, as well as community outreach and education.

Our specialists are experts in nutrition, and we have on staff a specialist in pediatric and adult weight management. She works as part of a team with our medical weight-loss program.

We are accredited as a Level 1 facility by the Bariatric Surgery Center Network Accreditation Program of the American College of Surgeons for our excellence in weight-loss surgery. Our physician-monitored weight-loss program has the region’s only hospital-based, board-certified weight loss specialist (bariatrician) who can help you shed your unwanted pounds without surgery.

If you're on Medicare Part B and have diabetes or non-dialysis kidney disease, you're eligible for one-on-one dietitian visits to help lower blood glucose and cholesterol. You'll learn about meal planning, carbohydrate counting, shopping tips and label reading. Coverage includes three hours in the first year for initial medical nutritional therapy (MNT) and two hours per year for follow-up MNT.

  • Bariatric Surgery Center Network Accreditation Our Weight Management Center is accredited as a Level 1 facility, the highest a hospital can achieve, by the Bariatric Surgery Center Network (BSCN) Accreditation Program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) for excellence in weight-loss surgery.

Nutrition programs

Nutrition and fitness are the keys to good health. Our registered dietitians are here to help you achieve your personal best through the following services:

Metabolism analysis and nutrition counseling – $105
Meet with a registered dietitian to discuss your nutrition goals and learn about your metabolism. The dietitian will measure your calorie-burning rate with a breath test, interpret your results, assess your eating habits and guide you in achieving your target weight. Nutrition assessment – $75 for initial assessment; $38 for each session
A registered dietitian will do a comprehensive nutrition assessment, including body composition using a Tanita® scale, to develop individual nutrition goals. To schedule, call the Weight Management Center at 610-402-5000.

Recipe makeover – $15
Bring in your favorite recipe and we'll show you how to trim fat, sugar, salt and calories. To schedule, call the Helwig Diabetes Center at 610-402-2567.

Eat Well for Life – $75 for a four-week program
Call for possible insurance discounts. Learn healthful food choices to help achieve a balanced lifestyle and long-term weight management. This includes a grocery tour. To schedule, call 610-402-CARE.

10 in 10 – $110 ($20 for Highmark participants)
This group-based, 10-week weight management program will help you lose 10 pounds or 10 percent of your body weight through nutrition, exercise and behavior. To schedule, call 610-402-CARE.

Food diary analysis – $22.50
