The Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) Anderson Visiting Medical Education Scholarship gives students from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to experience the premier academic training opportunities available at LVHN and reduces barriers to participation in such opportunities. This scholarship is one component of LVHN’s wider commitment to ensuring the next generation of health care professionals meets the needs of our patients, and that our future health care workforce reflects the diversity of the patients we serve.

Thanks to generous grants from The Health Care Trust of Anne Constance and Carl Robert Anderson, LVHN is offering scholarships for visiting medical students. These scholarships are available to those with a family income below set low-income thresholds or from challenging social, cultural or educational environments, such as certain rural or inner-city areas that may face barriers to medical career access. The scholarship helps reduce costs associated with clerkship travel, application fees and housing expenses. Apply now to ease your financial burden during your medical education journey.

Scholarship includes:

  • $1,000 scholarship to offset travel expenses, to be paid after completion of the four-week rotation
  • $500 meal stipend to be used in hospital cafeterias, to be provided at the beginning of the four-week rotation
  • Free dormitory housing for the length of the rotation
  • The opportunity to meet with the program director at LVHN corresponding to the specialty of their rotation
  • The opportunity to speak with a resident for advice on succeeding during their rotation and through the residency application/interview process

How to apply

  1. Review LVHN’s Visiting Medical Student webpage.
  2. Complete steps to apply for a visiting rotation at LVHN. Students must apply through the AAMC Visiting Student Learning Opportunities system.
  3. Complete LVHN’s Anderson Visiting Medical Education Scholarship Application. Scholarship applications must be received no later than April 30 annually.
  4. Students awarded a scholarship will be notified via email no later than May 30 annually.

Additional information

LVHN offers elective rotations to fourth-year medical students from LCME- and AOA-accredited medical schools in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada. Students must apply through the AAMC Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) system.
