You may be a candidate for treatment options that will stop reflux and heartburn. Sometimes the symptoms of acid reflux, also known as GERD, become severe enough to affect quality of life and require treatment.
In addition to traditional surgery options, Lehigh Valley Health Network offers two leading-edge procedures that will stop stomach acid from traveling past the lower esophageal sphincter.
Transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF)
Transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF) is a new procedure that offers relief from reflux without the need for surgical incisions. With this procedure the lower esophageal sphincter is reconstructed and restores the body’s natural protection against reflux.
LINX System uses a small band of magnetic beads to reinforce the function of a weak lower esophageal sphincter. When a patient swallows food, the LINX band expands and allows food to enter the stomach. The band then retracts to ensure no stomach acid returns into the esophagus.
