Mammograms
Mammograms (X-rays of the breast) are the most effective screening tool for detecting breast cancer and can find concerning areas that we cannot feel ourselves. While mammography involves a small amount of radiation exposure, it is completely safe and less than you would receive during a chest X-ray.
Women who are age 40 and older should get a screening mammogram once a year, even if you are not experiencing any concerning symptoms.
If you are at higher risk for breast cancer due to family history or a personal history of certain breast diseases, you may be qualified to start annual screenings at an earlier age.
