Recognizing acid reflux symptoms

Acid reflux occurs when a muscular valve between the esophagus and stomach doesn’t close properly. As a result, the stomach contents, including stomach acid, flow back up into the esophagus. Chronic reflux often causes nagging heartburn and a bad taste in your mouth. Other possible symptoms may include a dry cough, trouble swallowing and sore throat.

Frequent, severe acid reflux that isn’t adequately treated may lead to esophagus inflammation and damage. This increases the chance of getting a type of esophageal cancer.
