Brian Costello, DO, is a New Jersey native who received his undergraduate degree from Fairfield University in 2000. After finishing medical school training at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005, he joined Lehigh Valley Health Network to complete his residency training in internal medicine. He served as Chief Resident in 2009 and has stayed on as a member of the teaching faculty since.

Prior to becoming program director for the internal medicine residency in 2019, Costello served as an associate program director to the internal medicine and transitional year residency programs as well as a program director for the traditional rotating osteopathic internship. He chaired the Internal Medicine Residency Clinical Competency Committee from 2010-2019. He also served as the Director of Osteopathic Medical Education for LVHN from 2015-2020. His professional interests include medical education and both hospital medicine and primary care.

Costello has been the recipient of the Top 20 Teaching Award from 2009 through 2020.  He received the Joseph W. Gastinger, MD Award for Excellence in Clinical Medicine and Outstanding Humanitarian Behavior in 2008 and was Medical Student Teacher of the Year in Internal Medicine in 2010-2011.

When not at work, he can be found coaching his son’s sports teams, working with his Cub Scout pack, or he can be found at his daughter’s dance classes. He and his family enjoy visiting family down the Jersey Shore and in Pottsville, Pa. Each road trip comes standard with the sounds of E Street Radio blaring through the speakers of his car, much to the chagrin of his wife and kids.
