Lehigh Valley Institutes
The region's leader in heart, cancer, surgical and orthopedic care
Lehigh Valley Health Network has five clinical institutes: Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute, Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute, Lehigh Valley Fleming Neuroscience Institute, Lehigh Valley Institute for Surgical Excellence and Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute. Each serves as a hub of innovation, research and education, with the aim to enhance and improve your care.
Lehigh Valley Institutes are designed with you in mind. Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute, Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute and Lehigh Valley Institute for Surgical Excellence were established in 2018 by Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) to provide focus on conditions that impact many members of the communities we serve. In 2022, Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute was established to leverage the best of both Coordinated Health and Lehigh Valley Health Network in the region’s leading orthopedic service provider.
Through the leadership of each institute, your care teams pursue continuing medical education, participate in and lead medical research, and design ways to create better patient experiences and outcomes.
Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Cedar Crest serves as the hub where innovation, research and education originate. LVH–Muhlenberg, LVH–Hazleton, LVH–Schuylkill and LVH–Pocono are members of each institute and provide patients with access to the institutes’ distinct services and expertise in their respective communities.
Teamwork – The best and brightest doctors and clinicians meet regularly to share their expertise with one another and work together to care for you as one team.
Advanced treatment and education – LVHN doctors provide the most advanced technology and techniques in treating your condition. The team continues learning the most innovative approaches for care through ongoing formal training and medical education, and offers free programs and information about prevention, risk factors and screenings to our communities.
Research and clinical trials – Doctors and clinicians consult the latest research to inform decisions based on the best and most current evidence available. If you meet criteria for a clinical trial, you will have an opportunity learn more and choose to participate.
Access and convenience – Patients at all LVHN locations have access to the services, resources and expertise from our institutes.
People with heart conditions can take comfort knowing LVHN has the most experienced cardiologists and cardiac surgeons in the region, consistently ranking among the nation’s leaders in heart attack survival. Consider LVHN was the region’s first to perform transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and is recognized as a center for performing complex mitral valve repair surgery. We lead the region in the life-saving technology known as ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) and have specialized programs in women’s heart health, sports cardiology, advanced heart failure technologies, peripheral vascular and venous care and rhythm disturbance care.
People with cancer can have confidence knowing they have access to hundreds of life-saving and breakthrough clinical trials through our Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Alliance membership and other clinical relationships, and can receive surgical precision and comprehensive expertise through our multidisciplinary clinics for skin and soft tissue, upper GI, breast, prostate, lung and esophageal, and head and neck cancers.
Lehigh Valley Fleming Neuroscience Institute helps ensure patients have access to the Neuroscience Institute’s services, resources and expertise and our team-based, patient-centric approach. We prioritize collaboration and teamwork through interdisciplinary teams, stress ongoing education and training, and make decisions based on the latest research and evidence for every patient.
People who have serious illnesses that require surgery can be assured that our surgeons have the most experience in the region. They specialize in robotic and minimally invasive surgery for chest, cancer, obesity, esophageal reflux, colon and rectal conditions, hernia repair and more. Our emphasis on minimally invasive, leading-edge technologies, such as robotic surgery, allows our patients to return to their work and lives more quickly.
From competitive athletes to weekend warriors, and everyone in between, Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute offers people more choice, locations, access and patient-focused programs to address their bone, joint and musculoskeletal care needs – all within the same health network. Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute’s focus areas include orthopedics (including orthopedic trauma, pediatric orthopedics and sports medicine), chiropractic care, podiatry, pain management and physical medicine and rehabilitation (physiatry).
