Monroe County is home to nearly 170,000 people in Eastern Pennsylvania. Nestled in The Pocono Mountains of Monroe County, East Stroudsburg, Pa. is home to Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Pocono, which sits adjacent to East Stroudsburg University along Interstate 80.

Industry

Monroe County is home to Northeastern Pennsylvania’s largest employer, the Tobyhanna Army Depot. The depot is a logistics center for the United State Department of Defense and employs more than 5,000 people.

The U.S. headquarters for Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccines division of Sanofi, a global pharmaceutical company focused on human health, is located in Monroe County.

Attractions and Recreation

Explore the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area for canoeing, kayaking and hiking. The area includes nearly 70,000 acres of mountains, valleys and floodplains and contains several state parks. In the western foothills of the Pocono Mountains, you can find Hickory Run State Park, with over 40 miles of hiking trails for you to explore. Visit Jim Thorpe, voted one of the Most Beautiful Small Towns in America.

Rain or shine, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy water parks in the Poconos. There are four resorts in Monroe County with indoor water parks: Great Wolf Lodge, Aquatopia at Camelback Resort, Split Rock Resort and Golf Club and Kalahari Resort.
