Our services

American Academy of Sleep Medicine

If your child doesn't sleep well, your whole family can suffer. Babies, toddlers and teens often have ongoing sleep problems that make them more than just tired and grumpy. Pediatric sleep issues can result in behavior and learning problems. Sleep problems such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can even be dangerous to your child's health.

Sleep problems we treat

Our pediatric board certified sleep physicians treat pulmonary-based and neurological sleep disorders, such as:

  • Obstructive sleep apnea – difficulty breathing during sleep
  • Insomnia – trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or both
  • Narcolepsy – daytime sleep problems, sudden urge to fall asleep inappropriately while trying to stay awake
  • Hypersomnia – excessive daytime sleepiness not resulting from a lack of sleep
  • Parasomnias – sleep talking, sleep walking or other abnormal behaviors that happen during sleep
  • Sleep-related epilepsy  Seizures that occur during sleep

Comprehensive pediatric sleep disorder program

Regardless of your child's sleep issue, there's help from the Lehigh Valley Reilly Children's Hospital Pediatric Sleep Disorder Program. We offer a comprehensive sleep program designed to help diagnose and treat your child's sleep related issues.

Symptoms of a sleep disorder

Excessive daytime sleepiness, as well as waking up feeling unrefreshed, may be due to an undiagnosed sleep disorder, such as sleep apnea or narcolepsy. Sleep issues make it difficult for your child to focus at school or in group activities and can affect all aspects of your child's life.

Consider these questions about your child:

  • Is your child constantly exhausted?
  • Is your child difficult to wake in the morning after a night's sleep?
  • Do you notice that your child is excessively tired throughout the day?
  • Has your child ever fallen asleep at school or when they are trying to stay awake?
  • Does your child wake up frequently throughout the night?
  • Have you witnessed your child snore at night or have pauses in their breathing with snoring?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, your child may suffer from an undiagnosed sleep disorder.
