Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute LVH–Pocono 2018 Statistical Report
Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute annual statistical report for Lehigh Valley Hospital–Pocono provides information about cancer care delivered at the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center, our technologies and the cancer care team that makes it possible.
As the newest member of Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute, the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Pocono is pleased to issue its annual statistical report about cancer care provided to people in Monroe and Pike counties, as well as communities throughout the region.
In January 2017, Pocono Medical Center merged with Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) to become Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Pocono, building on more than 90 years of providing high quality health care “close to home.” LVHN’s mission “to heal, comfort, and care for the members of our communities…” is consistent with the community-focused traditions of Pocono Health System. The Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center was opened in June, 2012 and is a 58,000 square foot comprehensive cancer center seeing over 600 analytic cancer cases annually.
Highlights in the LVH–Pocono Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute 2018 Statistical Report:
Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Alliance – In June, 2018, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance Partnership was extended to LVH–Pocono at the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center. Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute became the second member of the MSK Alliance in 2016 and also provides the alliance’s advanced oncology care at LVH–Cedar Crest and LVH–Muhlenberg. Teams of oncology specialists from both health care organizations reviewed processes and clinical standards from across six disease specialties and disciplines within Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute – melanoma, breast, colon, endometrial, lung and prostate – to ensure alignment with MSK standard of care.
Mobile mammography coach – Our new mammography coach debuted this year. This specially designed vehicle has the same breast imaging technology as offered by Breast Health Services, but in this case the imaging technology is placed inside a state-of-the-art mobile unit. With the mammography coach, we can bring screening mammogram to women around the region.
Surgical oncology service expansion – As an extension of Lehigh Valley Physician Group (LVPG), and to provide a greater breadth and depth of services to Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Pocono, oncology surgeons began seeing patients at Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center.
