Patient and Family Advisory Council

The Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) at Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute, part of Jefferson Health, is a volunteer group of patients, caregivers and colleagues who ensure patients and families have a voice in improving the patient experience at the Cancer Institute.

What does the PFAC do?

PFAC members share their valuable thoughts, ideas and experiences as they collaboratively evaluate practices, programs and services available at the Cancer Institute in an effort to improve care and the overall patient experience.

Would you like to join PFAC?

We ask our members to:

  • Willingly share your experiences at the Cancer Institute during PFAC meetings.
  • Collaborate on projects to improve patient- and family-centered care at the Cancer Institute.
  • Complete all training and compliance obligations outlined by the Lehigh Valley Health Network Volunteer Department.

PFAC goals

  • Increase awareness of the PFAC among patients and families.
  • Provide insights and perspectives that reflect the needs and priorities of patients and families.
  • Advocate for initiatives that enhance and promote positive patient experiences.

PFAC activities and accomplishments

  • Participated in design planning for new inpatient oncology units. 
  • Created patient information for the Patient Education library.
  • Participated in filming educational videos.
  • Designed welcome brochures and patient education folders. 
  • Participated in design of gardens and outdoor spaces at LVHN campuses.
  • Participated in Magnet® reaccreditation surveys.
  • Conducted research and provide recommendations to the oncology team.
  • Standardized the meaning of the Recognition Bell across all sites and increased awareness through patient education.
