Hello, my name is Darrin Doran, DO, and I am a family medicine physician who started with Lehigh Valley Physician Group in December 2022. I am a native of Schuylkill County, originally born in Pine Grove, where my entire family still resides to this day. I knew that I wanted to become a physician from a young age. Growing up, I was very interested in and excelled in my science courses, and in particular I was fascinated by how the human body functions. And I wanted to use this knowledge in a practical way to help others. I am a first-generation college graduate. I went to Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and majored in biology and pre-medicine and completed a minor in psychology. I then went on to Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where I earned my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 2017. I completed by family medicine residency in the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center’s Kistler Family Medicine Program in 2020. Prior to joining LVPG, I worked for Geisinger as a family medicine physician and then in Philadelphia as a geriatric physician. I came back to Schuylkill County because I wanted to be closer to family and friends and to also help serve the community that I grew up in. Moreover, I have always had a passion for education, and when a position opened up to be part of the Walter and Irene Baran Schuylkill Family Medicine Residency Program, I jumped at the opportunity. Prior to going to medical school, I taught microbiology at the community college level and tutored throughout my tenure at Bloomsburg University. I wanted to continue to educate others, but, in particular, to help mentor the next generation of family medicine physicians in a compassionate manner. I am also so thrilled that a family medicine residency program was opened in my home county. I feel this is critical to the health needs of our community. Outside of work, I like to hang out with family and friends, go to the beach, read and just enjoy a good movie or television series.
