David O’Gurek, MD
Program Director, Vice Chair, Department of Family Medicine, Innovation, Equity and Wellness, Family Medicine, Primary Care
I grew up in the anthracite region of Northeastern Pennsylvania, where I now practice at LVPG Family Medicine–Lehighton, just 10 minutes from where I grew up. I earned my Bachelor of Science from St. Joseph’s University, my medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine and completed my Family Medicine Residency at the former Lancaster General Health.
Before joining Jefferson at Lehigh Valley Health Network, I worked in North Philadelphia in numerous roles, including founding medical director of the TRUST Clinic, an office-based opioid treatment program integrated into primary care, and founding director of a community-based, multidisciplinary mobile care unit serving patients with opioid use disorder and experiencing homelessness.
I’m a former chair of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Commission on Health of the Public and Science and past board chair and president of the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians. I’ve also developed educational programs in addiction medicine for the AAFP.
Outside of work, depending on the season, you can find me cheering for my Philadelphia sports teams as a die-hard fan.
