Hello, my name is Derek Fikse, and I am one of the newest members of LVHN toxicology faculty. I attended the University of Virginia (UVA) in Charlottesville, Va., and graduated with a degree in biology in 2010. While at UVA, I served as training officer for the Blue Ridge Mountain Search and Rescue Group. I graduated from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Va., in 2016. After medical school, I moved to the Lehigh Valley where I completed my emergency medicine residency in 2020. While in residency, I served as medical co-director for emergency medical services and further developed my wilderness medicine interests by pursuing the wilderness medicine track. After residency, I continued my education at LVHN, completing my medical toxicology fellowship in 2022. I am also pursuing my fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine and am a member of the Lehigh County Special Operations Team. When I’m not at work, I enjoy hiking, camping, biking, waterskiing, traveling, gardening, home renovations and spending time with my wife, who is also a physician at LVHN, and many pets.
