Hello! I am Drew Keister, the Vice Chair for Education for Family Medicine. Thanks for visiting our website. I hope that you will consider our innovative residency as a future home for your medical training. A bit more about me… I am a Lehigh Valley native who returned home to join the LVHN Family Medicine Department in 2008. After graduating from Emmaus High School, I went to Cornell University, double majoring in chemistry and neurobiology. I then accepted a military scholarship to attend Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, the sweetest place on Earth. I completed my residency at the Andrews Air Force Base, where I was introduced to the fundamentals of Osteopathy, so even though I am a MD I have been teaching and practicing OMM for more than 15 years. I joined the faculty at Offutt Air Force Base’s family medicine residency, in Omaha, NE when I finished my training. While there, I attended the University of North Carolina Faculty Development Fellowship, which was transformational for me. I learned so much about teaching, learning and being a medical educator! After coming to LVHN, I worked on the resident assessment "radar graphs" that were a major component of the residency's p4 (Preparing the Personal Physician for Practice) pilot experiment. Since then, I have worn many hats. I led the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Portfolio. I was the primary care clerkship director during the initiation of LVHN's partnership with the University of South Florida (USF). I served as the FM Residency Program Director for 3 years. In 2017, I became Vice Chair for Education. While I remain an active faculty member in the residency, the Vice Chair role lets me broaden my focus to include oversight the Dept of Family Medicine's other educational programs, including continuing medical education, fellowship programs, medical student education, predoctoral training, and a new family medicine residency in Schuylkill County. I live in Allentown with my two teenaged daughters, Rowen and Alina. When I am not at work, I love hiking, playing soccer and tennis. My other hobbies include disc golf, historical fencing, and strategy board games. If I haven’t already met you, I hope to make your acquaintance soon!
