Hello, I am Mackenzie Mady, and I am the residency program director. I am originally from Orwigsburg, Pa., and continue to reside in Schuylkill County. I earned my bachelor’s degree at University of Delaware and completed medical school at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. I then did my training at Abington Family Medicine residency.

I have been drawn to medicine since I was a child and was fascinated with the TV show Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. I spent my formative years learning everything I could about medicine and gathering as many hands-on experiences as possible, including my “candy striper” experience as a volunteer at the now Lehigh Valley Hospital–Schuylkill as a high school student.

During medical school, I had many interests but passionately decided to pursue family medicine. I was drawn to the continuity of care and emphasis on relationship-building, and the wide variety of patient issues. I was excited about the opportunity to practice medicine in a field where I could be committed to the community as well as focus on preventive care.

Beyond that, I truly enjoy the added value of practicing medicine in a rural community, where my patients are my neighbors. It is this community aspect of family medicine that has inspired me the most and makes me both grateful and excited to be part of the inception of this residency program. Prior to this opportunity, I spent my career as a community physician, working with both the rural and the urban underserved. I have an interest in addiction medicine and obesity medicine, and currently practice both.

Joining Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) in 2019 is what began my transition to graduate medical education. I am thrilled to be under the LVHN umbrella. We have an outstanding graduate medical education history and environment and a commitment to the community and the patient.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my three children, reading, running and simply enjoying the sights and sounds of the outdoors.
