Mr. Somers, a member of the Lehigh Valley Hospital–Pocono Board of Directors, is the President of Vigon International, a leading manufacturer of high-quality flavor and fragrance ingredients. In 1998, he purchased the fast-growing company and, in 2021, negotiated a merger with Azelis, a global specialty chemicals and food ingredient supplier based in Belgium. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from St. Joseph’s College and a Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry from St. John’s University. Mr. Somers has been recognized for his personal philanthropy over the decades. In Hackettstown, N.J., where he raised his family, a street was named after him, Somers Way, and he also received a key to that town. In East Stroudsburg, where he currently resides, he was the lead donor to build a synthetic turf field for the Centenary University men’s baseball team. In the neighborhood in New York where he grew up, he led a fundraising effort to help renovate a sports field for the ladies’ softball team. At St. Joseph’s College, Mr. Somers established endowed scholarships for two sisters and was a key donor in the construction of a new athletic center. In 2015, he was Inducted into the college’s Sports Hall of Fame. Mr. Somers established a full scholarship at his high school, Cathedral Prep, in honor of his parents and an endowed scholarship in the amount of $1 million. He also funded the construction of a new science lab and has been a supporter of various capital projects over the years. Mr. Somers is a trustee on several college boards as well as a member of several nonprofit boards, including the East Stroudsburg University Foundation. He is also a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia Economic and Community Advisory Council.
