TeleParkinson's
In January 2011, LVHN began providing follow-up care to patients with movement disorders (i.e., Parkinson’s disease) at Phoebe Home, a continuing care retirement community in Allentown. This program allows a neurologist to follow up on his/her patients remotely and eliminates transport from Phoebe Home to the LVPG Neurology physician practice for a visit.
A second Phoebe Home location went live with this service in 2013. Through the use of specific protocols and the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS), the nursing staff at Phoebe presents follow-up cases to LVHN neurologists via high definition videoconferencing systems. In this model of care delivery, neurologists are able to perform exams remotely and gather key clinical information from the nurses caring for the patient. The patient experiences an increased comfort level, as care is provided in their “home setting.”
