  2. Blue Light Cystoscopy

LVHN is the only health care network in the region to offer blue light cystoscopy. During this procedure, we use a special imaging solution to highlight your bladder cancer cells, allowing us to more easily find the edges of your tumor prior to surgery.

Blue light cystoscopy gives our surgeons an advantage, allowing them to remove tumors more completely, reducing chances for recurrence. In addition, it allows your doctor to spot other tumors that may not have shown up in the prior office cystoscopy.

How is blue light cystoscopy performed?

First, after making sure you are comfortable, we will insert a catheter through your urethra into your bladder. Through the catheter, we’ll inject an imaging solution called Cysview. After letting your bladder absorb the solution for an hour, we’ll be able to spot the illuminated cancer cells using a blue light. We’ll then use a tube-like instrument called a cystoscope to remove your tumor.

What happens after your procedure?

Removing bladder tumors is a minimally invasive procedure and requires no incision. You will be able to return home the same day.
