About

Philosophy of care

As a midwife, I uphold pregnancy and childbirth as a normal physiological process and a profound and important event in a person’s life. Components include continuity of care, informed choice and true informed consent, choice in the birthing process and collaboration with other health professionals. I value shared discussion and decision-making about care throughout the pregnancy, sharing evidence-based options and navigating evolving circumstances, and feeling validated and heard. All these principles also apply to routine annual exams and care for those who are not pregnant.

Why I entered medicine

I had several experiences prior to becoming a nurse or nurse-midwife that made me realize there are more opportunities to connect and truly hear the questions and concerns of patients. As a patient who did not feel validated, I took the opportunity to go "back" to school and become the type of provider I did not have.

Community involvement

I try to find ways to educate those around me. I have often helped with various summer camps and children's activities. I hope to find medical-need missions to assist those without access to resources.

Personal interests

My free time is divided among home-improvement projects, family trips, book club, raising chickens and road trips.
