About
Philosophy of care
I want you to feel heard. I believe in shared decision-making and giving you a voice to advocate for yourself within the realms of an evidenced-based practice. I want you to really understand your body and feel free to ask any question, knowing you will receive honest and nonjudgmental answers from me. I do not want you to feel like a number: I believe in personalized care aimed at treating the whole you and not just your conditions or lab work.
Why I entered medicine
I entered the medical field because I love science and wanted to help people, but choosing to specialize in women’s health was absolutely a calling. Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is such a personal area of medicine and some patients feel anxious coming to their appointments. I will always do my best to make you feel as comfortable in our office as possible. I genuinely love seeing my patients year after year, watching their children grow and caring for women across their full lifespan.
Community involvement
I have a special interest in mental health. I received a Perinatal Mental Health Certification from Postpartum Support International and am one of the founding members of the “WAVES” program within LVPG OB-GYN, which was developed in 2022 to help treat women struggling with their mental health during pregnancy and postpartum. I also love teaching and educate the next generation of physician assistants through lecturing and precepting students from several local universities. Finally, I am passionate about social justice and raising up those marginalized in our society. I serve as an active member of the OB-GYN diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) committee.
Personal interests
I love to cook and bake, garden, sew, read and do creative projects around the house. I like spending time outdoors hiking and visiting different national parks. I enjoy checking out local restaurants, seeing Broadway shows and traveling to new states and countries. Most of all, I am a proud wife and dog mom and love spending time with my little family.

"This was my first time seeing Melissa Aylesworth and I can't say enough good things about her! She took so much time with me, really listened and addressed all my concerns. I had several issues to address that we really troubling me, and she took the time to answer all my questions. It is a rare experience nowadays to feel so listened to and cared for when doctors are often so rushed. I highly recommend her if you are looking for someone to listen and take your concerns seriously. She knows medicine, but does not discount the effectiveness of natural supplements either. I was looking for the best of both worlds (medical and natural), and I found it!"
"I would like to say Melissa, the provider was truly amazing. I was seeing her for the first time on very short notice after receiving some anxiety producing news and she was nothing short of kind, compassionate and knowledgeable. The office was running over an hour behind due to a medical emergency and Melissa made it a point to come out to the waiting room and let me know she knew I was there and that we would figure everything out together. I've never met a provider who I have felt cares about their patients more than Melissa does. Thank you, Melissa, for being so kind and going above and beyond for me."
"Melissa is the best. Always so caring."
