Mission Statement
Since 1895, Joseph F. McCloskey School of Nursing has prepared graduates in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, to become licensed, practice-ready registered nurses who provide safe, evidence-based, patient-centered care. As part of Jefferson Health, we share its mission to improve lives, starting with the students we teach and the patients they will serve.
Vision
To be recognized as an ACEN-accredited nursing education program, respected by students, peers, employers, and the community, and to reflect Jefferson Health’s vision of reimagining health, education, and discovery.
Values and Habits
The faculty of Joseph F. McCloskey School of Nursing (JFMSON) teaches nursing and how its students go on to practice it. JFMSON holds the same three values shared across Jefferson Health. Each value and its habits, below, shape how JFMSON teaches nursing and how its students go on to practice it.
Put People First
Nursing begins with the patient as a full partner in care, guided by their own values, preferences,
and needs. That partnership extends to the full care team, and students build it starting with their first clinical rotation.
Habit: Build relationships. Engage with grace. Create moments.
Do What’s Right
Every nurse is accountable for the safety, integrity, and outcomes of the care provided, a standard the curriculum holds students to from their first clinical evaluation.
Habit: Prioritize what matters. Align on expectations. Act with integrity.
Pursue Excellence
Nursing knowledge and skill advance through evidence, lifelong learning, and capable leadership, built through coursework and faculty mentorship that carry students through licensure and into practice.
Habit: Look and listen. Innovate with intent. Value lessons learned.
These values tie JFMSON to Jefferson Health, but they describe what has been true here since 1895: care that is safe, compassionate, and rooted in Schuylkill County and the communities beyond it.
