Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Residency Program Curriculum

Our curriculum follows the AAO-HNS two-year national curriculum, consisting of weekly modules and assessments. Residents complete the full curriculum twice during training. In parallel, residents complete all chapters of “Bailey’s Head & Neck Surgery” on a structured two-year cycle.

PGY-1

All rotations at Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Cedar Crest:

  • Otolaryngology-head and neck surgery (OTO-HNS), 6 blocks
  • Surgical intensive care unit, 1 block
  • Trauma, 1 block
  • Neurosurgery, 1 block
  • General surgery, 1 block
  • Plastic surgery, 1 block
  • Anesthesia, 1 block

PGY-2

All rotations at LVH–Cedar Crest:

  • Pediatric ear, nose and throat (ENT), 3 blocks
  • Head and neck (H&N) laryngology/general OTO-HNS, 3 blocks
  • Otology, 3 blocks
  • General OTO-HNS and allergy, 3 blocks

PGY-3

All rotations at LVH–Cedar Crest:

  • Rhinology, 3 blocks
  • H&N laryngology/general OTO-HNS, 2 blocks
  • Pediatric ENT, 3 blocks
  • Research, 3 blocks
  • Elective, 1 block

PGY-4

All rotations at LVH–Cedar Crest:

  • Elective, 1 block
  • General OTO-HNS and sleep, 2 blocks
  • H&N, 3 blocks
  • Oral and maxillofacial surgery (facial trauma), 3 blocks
  • Otology, 3 blocks

PGY-5

All rotations at LVH–Cedar Crest:

  • H&N, 3 blocks
  • Facial plastics/facial trauma, 3 blocks
  • Rhinology/anterior skull base, 3 blocks
  • Otology/neurotology, 3 blocks

Lehigh Valley Health Network Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery residents will train at Venel institute twice a year in temporal bone courses and once per year for a basic anatomy lab
