Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Alumni Reflections

The Lehigh Valley Pulmonary and Critical Care (PCCM) fellowship was a truly rewarding experience in all aspects. The education provided was detailed and focused on creating not only the best PCCM physicians, but also structured to allow for a meaningful work-life balance. During my three years of training and now after staying on staff, I have seen the program continuously expand and incorporate new advancements.

Our medical intensive care unit is busy and offers plenty of opportunities for procedures, ventilator management, and to grow your voice and leadership skills on teaching rounds. The pulmonary consult service truly sees an unbelievable breadth of pathology. Our bronchoscopy service is a high-volume and constantly innovating program with plenty of opportunities for procedures.

After starting as an attending, I was able to fully appreciate both the educational foundation we received, and the critical thinking instilled in us to be completely prepared for independent practice. - Gregory Karamian, MD

This fellowship prepares you to excel as a pulmonary and critical care physician. From a diverse exposure of clinical conditions, strong didactics and journal clubs, a high-volume of procedures and bronchoscopies, including endobronchial ultrasound and robotic bronchoscopies, this fellowship set me up to succeed and transition smoothly and confidently into the attending physician role. The fellowship faculty are true physician educators, have a passion for teaching, and push you to truly know and practice evidence-based medicine. I am so thankful that as an attending physician now within the same health care system that I can use the training I received to help as many people as possible and help teach and lead the next generation of fellows and medical students.” - Joshua Carlson, MD, MPH
