Visitation at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Muhlenberg
Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) believes the presence of a family member can have a positive impact on the healing process, so we encourage visits to our patients whenever possible.
LVHN has an open visitation policy for family at Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Cedar Crest, LVH–Muhlenberg, LVH–17th Street and LVHN–Tilghman.
We also know that eliminating as much noise as possible overnight allows our patients to rest undisturbed and promotes healing. Because of this, an announcement will be made at 9 p.m. every night to declare that “Quiet Time” has begun, and guest visitation hours have ended. As part of that announcement, a designated supporting family member will be invited to remain. Nurses on duty will have the discretion to invite any visitors to return the following day to encourage patient rest.
Some care areas do have special guidelines for guests. Please talk to your nurse to determine if any special guidelines apply to the area where your loved one is receiving care. For example, we do not welcome into our patient care areas a guest who has signs and symptoms of infection or contagious disease, has had recent exposure to anyone with an infectious disease, or has received a live vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella, Varivax or Zostavax) within the past four weeks.
People with flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, body aches) are asked not to come to the hospital for visitation. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this policy. Our goal is to limit the spread of flu-like illnesses and keep our community healthy.
If you decide to visit a patient at LVHN–Tilghman after hours when the doors are locked, use the phone in the vestibule in the 4815 building. A security guard will let you in.
Our goal is to create partnerships among the health care team, which includes you and your family members. This will help enhance the safety and quality of your health care and ensure you have the ideal patient experience.
All LVHN facilities – including all buildings, parking lots and grounds – are completely smoke-free. This policy not only applies to all visitors, but all patients and hospital staff.
Any visitor smoking on the hospital property will be asked to refrain from doing so. We appreciate your cooperation.
Our aim, by becoming a smoke-free organization, is to protect and improve the health of our staff, patients and visitors, both smokers and non-smokers.
