Position Overview

Our team of psychiatrists, psychologists, physician assistants, certified registered nurse practitioners, licensed clinical social workers, psychiatric nurses and occupational therapists work collaboratively to ensure the best outcomes for their patients.
In addition to our inpatient behavioral health services at LVH–Muhlenberg, LVH–Schuylkill, and LVH–Pocono, we provide short-term services at LVH–Muhlenberg and LVH–Cedar Crest, including individual, couples, family, and group therapy, and when indicated, medication management to children, adolescents, adults and older adults.
The Behavioral Health team at Lehigh Valley Health Network consists of a team of 28 Physicians (including adult and child and adolescent providers), 20 Advanced Practice Clinicians, 20 Residents and Fellows, 150 Social Workers, and various clinical support staff.
The child and adolescent psychiatrists at Lehigh Valley Health Network are anchored at Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital is the region’s only children’s hospital. There are currently 5 Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists within the Department. Services offered include outpatient psychiatry and therapy, inpatient psychiatry (located within the Behavioral Health Science Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Muhlenberg), and an adolescent partial hospitalization program. The Behavioral Health Science Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Muhlenberg consists of 13-beds and treats patients ages 13-18 by utilizing an interdisciplinary treatment team, including a school teacher.
Job Details:
- Approximately 50% of time spent within the inpatient unit
- Approximately 50% of time spent within other areas of interest for the provider (PHP, outpatient, ED, etc.)
- The unit is 13 beds, and the census is normally full. The average length of stay in the unit is 8 days.
- Cover approximately 4-5 patients while in the unit with a multidisciplinary care team.
- Patients are typically transitioned from the inpatient unit to the partial hospitalization program or an outpatient practice for continued care
- Opportunity to work with Resident and Fellows. There are 6 Adult Psychiatry Residents per year and 2 Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists (total of 4). Medical students also rotate throughout the department.
- For individuals seeking an outpatient role with the 50% of time allocated outside of the inpatient unit, clinical space will be provided on the hospital campus. Typically, providers can expect:
- Well rounded patient mix
- An average of 5-7 follow ups per day in addition to 1 new patient
- 90 minutes are allocated with new patients and 30 minutes are allocated for follow-ups
- Call is shared by all child and adolescent providers and consists of:
- Average of 9 weekends per year of rounding on the inpatient unit and taking practice call.
- Weeknight call is provided by Residents from 5pm-11pm. APCs provide coverage from 11pm-7am. Physicians are only back up call during the week.

Qualifications
- Child & Adolescent Fellowship
- Must be Board Eligible or Board Certified
- A current PA Medical License or ability to obtain one is required
