Summary

Maintains responsibility for the transportation of patients, specimens, and equipment throughout the facility. Moves patients to and from clinical units and various diagnostic/treatment areas via a wheelchair, stretcher, or bed which may include patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips, and other equipment. Coordinates patient transport activities in the facility as well as at the entrances. Responds to various alerts to prevent and assist with emergent situations. Assists patients and patient care staff.

Job Duties

  • Transports patients in a safe and timely manner as directed by medical professional staff and established policies and procedures.
  • Assists in retrieving, cleaning, and storage of all patient transport equipment.
  • Completes all training requirements and attends in-service education and scheduled departmental staff meetings for transportation planning and initiatives.
  • Maintains traffic control near the healthcare facility by ensuring fire lanes and no parking zones are clear of traffic.
  • Supports patient throughput and hospital capacity initiatives by using transport software to facilitate timely patient transports.
  • Coordinates activities in the discharged patient holding area.
  • Handles portable oxygen cylinders safely.
  • Obtains transport equipment for transport.
  • Receives and documents patient transportation assignments.
  • Provides safety checks with oxygen during transport and follows isolation protocol to keep patients and staff safe from cross infection.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year of experience in customer service
  • Ability to demonstrate the importance of and ability to provide a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to display a compassionate, positive, and upbeat disposition in interactions with customers/patients.
  • Knowledge of specialty equipment tools: typewriter, computer, copier, fax, calculator.
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Certification - State of Pennsylvania within 180 Days
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 180 Days
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 180 Days
  • DL - Driver's License_PA - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical School Diploma and
  • Associate’s Degree

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
