Summary
Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the care of surgical patients.
Job Duties
- Assesses the physical, psycho/social health, and spiritual needs of the patient scheduled for surgery.
- Documents the patient response to nursing/medical interventions.
- Documents the initial and ongoing education needs of the patient/family as appropriate.
- Provides and ensures age-appropriate, direct patient care utilizing skills, knowledge, and established standards of care.
- Compiles data, tracks outcomes, and makes recommendations for process improvement.
- Performs therapeutic nursing interventions.
- Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
- Administers medications to patients and monitors patients for reactions or side effects.
- Recognizes adverse signs and symptoms and quickly reacts.
- Identifies and documents educational needs of patients and family; reinforces pre and post procedural teaching.
Minimum Qualifications
- Specialized Diploma in nursing
- 1 year of clinical experience.
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations and events.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skill to provide care appropriate to the ages of patients served.
- Demonstrates commitment to professional image and behavior.

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
